Inspired by Sherry Turkle’s Ted Talk Connected but Alone

“We learn to have conversations with each other
to have conversations
with ourselves”

Alone Together is an on-going project that focuses on creating a digital space to illustrate loneliness and togetherness through the concept of archiving conversations. I collected various screenshotted conversations from people and created this archive.

Aside from loneliness, other emotions include evoking nostalgia and togetherness through how language of texts are being isolated in a space. Colored tabs are there to help differentiate the vague emotions a text could hold. In addition, I wanted to create a texture of a wallpaper-esque feeling of all these combined feelings of conversations from people who feel similar emotions.

The idea stemmed from creating a space where individual can upload their own screenshot text messages, and annotate them and archive them based on the annotations. This would allow the user to refer to texts and the type of relationship the text has to the user and the type of conversations they had.
